DESCRIPTION:Here’s information about the appeal of the proposed Nedonna Wave PUD that was filed with the Rockaway Beach City Council.Please help to support the appeal the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition filed of the RB Planning Commission’s decision to allow the Nedonna Wave Planned Unit Development to go forward. (See attachment.) (Oregon Shores is the appellant and is represented by the Crag Law Center.)\n\n \nAt the September 11th RB City Council meeting\, it was decided to hold a hearing concerning this appeal at the Wednesday\, November 20th City Council meeting. They voted “to limit the presentation of additional evidence on such issues as the reviewing body determines necessary for a proper resolution of the matter.”\n\n \n\nIf possible\, please attend the Rockaway Beach City Council meeting Wednesday\, October 9\, at 6:00 p.m. You could be there in-person or watch it on Zoom. Additionally\, you can submit written comments about the appeal. Any testimony you make will not be part of the official appeal; however\, it will be part of the public record. It is very important to let the City Councilors hear\, in a personal way\, from all of us about our concerns about the Nedonna Wave PUD. Areas of concern may include loss of wetland habitat (the land and the wildlife)\, detriments to water quality and quantity\, and increased housing density. More areas of concern are the safety issues related to higher fire danger\, as well as the lack of adequate neighborhood access for emergency vehicles and egress for residents’ vehicles. It should be noted that the entire Nedonna Beach neighborhood is defined by DEQ as being a “designated groundwater drinking water protected area.” The groundwater wells that the City uses as a secondary drinking water source are located below this neighborhood. Any additional development will have detrimental effects on this DEQ-protected area.\n \nHelp get the word out\, talk with your family and friends\, and write letters to local media sources. We have had a groundswell of support for protecting this area ranging from neighbors to visitors. Educated at the University of Oregon and Harvard\, Mr. Niemi is President of Natural Resource Economics\, Inc. where he specializes in economic-impact analysis to understand the economic importance of natural resources. He has been active on numerous advisory boards\, including the Citizen’s Task Force for Developing a Strategic Plan for the Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife\, and the Technical Advisory Committee on Land Use and Economic Development for the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development. \nMr. Niemi’s presentation will broadly explore the economic consequences of the climate crisis before examining the economic importance of maintaining our forested ecosystem. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, April 25th at St. Mary-by-the-Sea Parish Hall. \n275 S. Pacific St. \nRockaway Beach\, Oregon \nThis will be a grassroots meeting\, open to all\, who believe we have a right to abundant safe and clean drinking water. If you drink the water in Rockaway Beach that comes from Jetty Creek\, you should attend this meeting. If you are interested in citizen involvement regarding the future of the Jetty Creek Watershed and other coastal drinking water sheds\, you should attend. At the Oregon Coast\, many watersheds that provide drinking water to towns\, large and small\, have been damaged by clearcutting followed by pesticide spraying. Because of industrial forestry practices and climate change\, there are now summer water shortages along the Oregon Coast.

One is consideration of a resolution to establish a SWP Plan Development Advisory Committee. If approved\, the resolution will establish the Advisory Committee for the purposes of receiving project information\, reviewing reports\, and providing community input to the SWP facilitator during the development of the City’s SWP Plan. The advisory committee will consist of five members who are served by the Rockaway Beach Water District. At least four members shall be residents of the City. Appointments will be made according to the City Charter and by resolution of the City Council. The City will solicit application packets from parties interested in serving on the committee. His is the voice you’ll hear in this 4-minute video about the Peachland Watershed\, a watershed that bears an eerie resemblance to the Jetty Creek Watershed. Hammond wrote: “I have spent decades working to protect watersheds\, with much of my focus being on watersheds used for consumptive use.
